‘El Cucuy’ Tony Ferguson has been actively looking for an opponent for quite a long time. He last fought fellow American, Justin Gaethje in a bloody encounter, which he eventually lost. But, now it looks like he might have found a match in UFC newcomer Michael Chandler.
The former Bellator MMA champion, Michael Chandler shot directly into the limelight when he was named the back-up fighter for Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. Michael too had been calling out a number of UFC lightweights to fight him, but none of it seemed to materialize. In fact it was Michael who had called out Tony Ferguson earlier this week on Twitter.
Earlier today, Tony Ferguson took to Twitter to reply to Michael Chandler’s call out, adding that he was down for whatever.

Earlier, this week there was big news in the UFC lightweight division, as Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier was finally booked for UFC 257. A win here would easily put the victor next in line for the title shot. Conor would be hoping to mark his return with a bang against the equally experienced Dustin.
The lightweight division is bustling right now

The lightweight division has been thrown wide upon ever since the retirement of potential consensus GOAT Khabib Nurmagomedov. There are a truckload of unbelievable talents namely, Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, Tony Ferguson, Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier, you name them, all waiting to grab the coveted title. It will be really interesting to see how things pan out in the next 12 months.
If the fight happens, it would be a great introductory fight for ‘the face of Bellator MMA’, Michael Chandler, as he himself recently revealed that he wanted a really good opponent for his UFC debut. As for Tony, he would looking to put his loss against Justin Gaethje behind and climb up the lightweight ladder which has become really precarious of late. Your move UFC!
