Michael Porter Jr. has had a year and a half that he would have wished never happened. His family life took a turn for the worse, and now, he will leave their side as he builds a new career with the Brooklyn Nets.

His brother, Jontay Porter, was banned from the NBA for aiding bettors. He is also awaiting sentencing for his crimes and could spend some years behind bars.

Then younger brother, Coban, was sentenced to a maximum 8 years in prison for a drunk driving car crash that killed a woman. Another younger brother, Jevon, also had a run-in with the law after being arrested for DUI.

Now, Michael Porter Jr. is left to bring peace to his family, as they have to navigate through the embarrassment of having three children become synonymous with criminals.

The NBA champion has not addressed his brothers’ actions so far. Now, while on his Curious Mike podcast, the 27-year-old decided to address the vulnerabilities that young men such as himself and his brother, Jontay Porter, have to deal with.

My brother, for example, struggled with gambling. My vice has always come in the form of women… My brother Jontay, he never seemed to struggle with that vice. You know, I never struggled with the gambling addiction. I never struggled with that vice.

Michael Porter Jr. said

Essentially, he was trying to explain that since Jontay Porter is not good at handling money, God has not blessed him with that. On the other hand, since Michael Porter Jr. is good with money, God has blessed him with the millions of dollars that he earns.

Fans wonder what Michael Porter Jr. was trying to say

When clips of this podcast episode found their way onto social media, fans were left trying to understand what Michael Porter Jr. was trying to say. On one hand, he was explaining the vices of himself and his brothers.

On the other hand, he seemed to be trying to justify those vices by suggesting that God does not bless one with everything. Even though that is true, fans were not pleased with his attempts at trying to justify Jontay Porter’s gambling problems.

Nor were they happy with the new Brooklyn Nets star justifying why he has been circling around with different women now and then. Check out examples of those reactions below.

There have been a few instances where fans have been caught off guard by what Michael Porter Jr. said on his podcast. This could be one of those instances, as basically, he was justifying his and his brothers’ actions.

There is no explanation why Jontay Porter would help bettors when he could have been making a lot more money in the NBA. Then there is also no explanation why a young Coban Porter would throw his young life away to drinking and driving.

A new chapter starts for Michael Porter Jr. with the Brooklyn Nets

Michael Porter Jr. spent 6 seasons with the Denver Nuggets, and won 1 NBA championship as one of the most important pieces on that roster. Last season, that changed after leading superstar Nikola Jokic‘s words sparked tensions within the team.

The Missouri star was always a reserved person and never went out of his way to build camaraderie with the other players. Maybe that is why he was once left out of a team party, and was hearing rumors of him being a trade asset.

Potentially, Jokic’s words were the last straw, and the 27-year-old now has to start his life fresh in New York. Now, as possibly the leading superstar on the Brooklyn Nets, he will finally get the chance to fulfil his potential.

He was touted to be the next generational superstar. But injuries hindered his development, and he ended up being the 4th option on the Nuggets. Perhaps with the Nets, he can elevate his career up a notch.
