John Cena has had several on-screen romance angles throughout his career in WWE. One of these was his abrupt storyline with Mickie James in 2008. The angles seemingly went nowhere, and the storyline fizzled out.
Speaking on Ring The Belle, James expressed severe uncertainty about her romance angle with Cena. She claimed that the two of them were “talking” at that time, and WWE decided to turn this real-life angle into a storyline. Thus, they decided to give it a go and see how their on-air chemistry panned out. She still does not know where these segments were supposed to go.
When Mickie James rewatched the segments, she was hesitant about both of their performances. She felt that their chemistry didn’t translate well onto the screen and came off as highly unnatural. In fact, the 44-year-old felt uncomfortable re-watching those segments right after shooting them.
It felt uncomfortable. It felt like it came off; I don’t know that it came off on camera as natural.

The two superstars have since moved on with their lives. Cena went on to marry an engineer by the name of Shay Shariatzadeh. Meanwhile, James kept her romantic life in the professional wrestling world and is married to SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. She constantly has hilarious interactions with her husband on social media.
Dominik Mysterio lays out a challenge for John Cena
John Cena announced at the Money in the Bank PLE that 2025 would be his final year in wrestling. He would wrestle his last WrestleMania match in Las Vegas and would hang up his boots by the end of the year. Since this announcement, many huge superstars like CM Punk have publicly stated that they want a match with the 16x World Champion before he hangs it up. It seems that Dominik Mysterio also wants a piece of this pie.

Speaking to Fox News, the former NXT North American Champion claimed that he would beat up Cena at WrestleMania. He brought up that he had some history with the former Doctor of Thuganomics and would love to air out his anger. If the Hollywood superstar was willing to step into the ring with Dominik Mysterio, he was on board as well.
And as far as ‘Mania goes, I’m open for anything. John Cena wants to come in and get his a** whooped at ‘Mania, I’m here for it. I have some history with him, and I definitely would love to air some anger out on him. If he’s willing to step in the ring with me, I’m more than willing to step in the ring with him.

Mysterio and Cena surprisingly have a lot of history together. The Peacemaker star has even teamed up with the Latino superstar and his father, Rey Mysterio, in the past to take on Roman Reigns and The Usos. Furthermore, these two have fought several times in dark matches and house shows.
