‘Obsessed’ Mike McDaniel schedules every offseason staff meeting to start at 24th minute of the hour just to remind everyone it’s been 24 years since Miami’s last playoff win
McDaniel aims to drill the number 24 into his players so that they can perform beyond their limits when the time comes.

Mike McDaniel wants each individual associated with the Miami Dolphins to remember the number 24. That’s how long the franchise has gone without tasting playoff victory.
After wrapping up another day of minicamp at Miami Gardens on Thursday, the Dolphins coach threw light on this.
To you guys, it means nothing. That's how many years it's been since the organization has won a playoff game.Mike McDaniel said
Despite making the playoffs in his first two seasons in charge of the Dolphins, his team failed to win any postseason game on either occasion. Miami won 11 games in the first half of the season but lost 6 in the latter with three defeats to close out the regular season.
The Dolphins’ last postseason win came in the 2000-01 season. McDaniel aims to lead the team to third consecutive playoffs, a feat they haven’t repeated since 2001.
What can we learn from all of this… [Why not] find ways to emphasize finishing in everything you do? Obsess about it… I had every staff meeting [I] put at like 7:24 or 3:24 or 5:24; the number 24.Mike McDaniel said
The Dolphins want to break down the wall of disappointment in 2024. Last season they lost out to the eventual champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, in the wild-card round.
Mike McDaniel is obsessed with achieving success. He’s scheduled every offseason staff meeting to start at the 24th minute of the hour (7:24am, 3:24pm, etc) to constantly remind everyone that it’s been 24 years since Miami has won a playoff game.

Mike McDaniel wants his players to focus on winning
Despite a squad that consists of Super Bowl winners Tyreek Hill (with the Chiefs) and Jalen Ramsey (with the Los Angeles Rams), along with potential $50 million a year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins always seem to fall short of their ultimate goal. McDaniel aims to change that narrative but understands that peer pressure plays a massive part during the games.

When the results don’t go according to plan, the media will blame it on the players for their lack of commitment.
The reason why I bring it up, just because I know no matter how much I tell people to not listen, it's impossible not to hear the noise coming. There's always going to be noise.Mike McDaniel said
Miami hasn’t won a Super Bowl since the franchise lifted back-to-back Lombardi Trophies in 1972 and 1973. The 1972 season’s Dolphins are the only team in NFL history to not lose a single game in either the regular season or the playoffs.
The Dolphins begin their 2024 season at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami by welcoming the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 8. The Jaguars came out on top last time these two teams met in London back in 2021 with a 23-20 scoreline.
