Fortune does not seem to be on the side of the Los Angeles Angels. The American League West team suffered a major blow to their 2024 ambitions as superstar Mike Trout suffered a serious knee injury.
The 32-year-old MLB great has not had a great time with injuries in his career. On Wednesday, the three-time American League MVP was seen holding back tears as he informed about his latest setback. He is now set to undergo a surgery for torn meniscus in his knee that would keep him out for the most part of the season.
Having already lost Anthony Rendon to the injured list due to a hamstring issue, the pressure to carry the offense of the team had doubled up on Trout. This setback also comes at a time when Trout was having a good time as he was tied for the lead with rookie Gunnar Henderson for the most home runs in the season with ten.
The frustrating part about this injury for Trout is that he didn’t knew when he got injured. While speaking to the media on Wednesday, Trout admitted that the he had a rough night and was not able to get out of his bed following this tear.
It’s tough. It’s just frustrating. But we’ll get through it. It’s crazy because when I look back, I don’t even know when I did it.Mike Trout said as per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com
Last season Trout injured his wrist and appeared in just 82 games. In the 2022 season, he suffered strain in his right calf and was sidelined for 36 games. Though he did play 100 games that year, he has not completed 130 games or more since 2019, which has become a worrying sign for him.
