Days after the Arsenal vs Bayern Munich game, commotion surrounding the controversial ‘handball’ decision still hasn’t subsidised. As Arsenal were forced to resort to a 2-2 draw at the Etihad, the referee’s decision to let a handball appeal slide became the focal point of discussion. While many argue that Arsenal got lucky in the process, others claimed that there was nothing worthy of a penalty.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is one of the most vocal managers in the competition. The Spaniard has never been one to shy away from a discussion and has always been defensive of his team’s conduct. Days after the ‘handball’ incident surrounding Gabriel Magalhães, the head coach came to his players defense. Arteta pointed to how the law calls to use ‘common sense’, thereby engaging several rival fans in the process!
I noticed the Gabriel handball story, especially after there was a certain reaction from Bayern. The law says to use common sense and whether you take an advantage from the situation. There wasn’t any advantage.
Mikel Arteta said in a press conference ahead of the game vs Aston Villa
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel was enraged following the decision and said that the match official had made a ‘horrible mistake’.
Arsenal in ‘no mood’ to tolerate Mikel Arteta to Barcelona rumors
Mikel Arteta has been the embodiment of ‘trusting the process’. The Spanish tactician, despite his initial seasons being without success, has brought the team under his control as of late. Arsenal came extremely close to lifting the Premier League title last season.
A season later, the Gunners find themselves in pole position with 71 points. With just 7 games to go, the Premier League title is Arsenal’s to lose.
FC Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez had announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. Ever since his announcement, the Arsenal boss has been linked to the Blaugrana. However, Arteta had earlier put an end to such rumors, going on the record to pledge his allegiance to Arsenal.
With the Barcelona target’s contract coming to an end in 2025, it will be no surprise if the club offer him a prompt extension. It is understood that the Gunners have no intention of letting their star manager walk away and a new contract offer is in the works.
His current contract sits at £9.5 million-a-year and with his men being strong contenders for both the Premier League and the Champions League, it is only a matter of time before a new deal is presented.
