The Madrid Open continues to face criticism from fans, especially after last year’s failure to provide equal treatment to women as to men. Fans are now closely watching for any misstep from the Madrid Open, and a recent post has only fueled their scrutiny.
Tennis teen Mirra Andreeva was celebrating her 17th birthday on tour. She played the other rounds during her birthday week and reached the quarter-finals on her actual birthday. It was an important day and a special occasion for the 17-year-old to begin her new year with a bang.

The Madrid Open made the day even more special by presenting Andreeva with a cake. However, when the Russian posted a picture of the cake, fans didn’t hesitate to criticize its unique design.
The cake, a mix of pink and red with pink circles at the bottom, received a lot of negative attention on social media, with fans expressing disappointment in both the cake and the lack of interest shown by the WTA.
Fans bash the Madrid Open for the cake they gifted to Mirra Andreeva
The Mutua Madrid Open, which tries its level best for the players to feel at home, often finds them struggling with the trolls online. Recently, they once again got on the other side of the fans for having presented young Mirra Andreeva with an ‘interesting’ cake on her birthday.

However, this wasn’t the first cake incident that the Madrid Open has been a part of. Last year, they were caught up in the controversy which originated from the cake size difference between Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka’s.

Back then also, the tennis fans had bashed the organization for the difference in treatment between men and women. With a history of them doing the same, they even got blamed this year as well. Although the tournament director Feliciano Lopez claimed that they have improved, the complaints from women speak otherwise.
