The Indian women’s team captain Mithali Raj continued to break records as she reached the milestone of scoring 7000 runs in the ODI format. The feat comes just two days after she became the second woman cricketer to reach 10,000 runs in international cricket after the legendary Charlotte Edwards. Mithali is also the most capped player in women’s cricket history having played 311 matches.

The Indian team is playing against South Africa in the fourth ODI at present and if they don’t manage to win it, it would be a series loss. The matches are being played at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. South Africa had drawn first blood in the series by winning the first ODI but India came roaring back in the second before conceding the third match to leave South Africa as favorites.

Mithali Raj’s streak of records continues

Mithali Raj is the holder of a plethora of records in women’s cricket and she has a case for herself to be considered as the greatest to have ever played the women’s game. Other records that she holds include being the first player to score half-centuries in seven consecutive ODIs. She also has the most amount of half-centuries in women’s cricket. She was also the first to score 2000 runs in T20Is before announcing her retirement to focus on the ODIs.

Apart from her batting feats, Mithali is also a terrific captain. She is the only Indian woman to have captained India in an ICC World Cup final twice as she did it in 2005 and 2017. Even at 38, the determined Mithali Raj is still going strong and she undoubtedly seems set to only break more records.
