It is that time of the year where baseball fever starts to go up across the US. The countdown for the Opening Day has begun. Apart from this, one other thing that makes fans excited about is the drop of the video game, MLB The Show 24.
The game developed by the Sony San Diego Studio has been a major hit among baseball fans. This year, the title will drop on 19th March with Toronto Blue Jays, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. being the cover star. On Thursday, the developers revealed the hundred top rated players in the game this year.
This year, a total of 40 players have received a rating of 90 or more with cover athlete Guerrero Jr. being one of the 90-rated players. Whereas, a total of 11 players have been given a 95 or more rating with five superstars being the highest-rated players of the game with a 99 overall rating. Lets delve deep into in and find out who they are?
The five players with the highest rating in MLB The Show 24
Shohei Ohtani
As if there was any doubt. Shohei Ohtani is one of the 99 rated players in the game and rightly so. The Japanese International has been one of the top performers of the game and won the American League MVP award in 2023.
The 29-year-old is one of the three players to retain his previous year’s rating, as he was a 99 overall player in MLB The Show 23 as well. The two-phenom is surely the man many will be keeping eyes on in the 2024 season.
Mike Trout
In the previous editions, some fans pointed out it as cheating as the Los Angeles Angels had not one but two 99 rated players. Ohtani’s former teammate Mike Trout retains his position as one of the top rated players in the new title.
This year the pressure will firmly be on Trout to deliver. With Ohtani no longer in his team, all eyes will on how the American star proceeds to handle the situation and help the Angels steer forward to a positive campaign.
Aaron Judge
The third and final player to remain a 99 overall star in the game is Aaron Judge. Coming after a magnificent AL MVP winning season, Judge was named as one of the tops players of the game.
The year 2023 though did it turn out the way he would have hoped. The New York Yankees’ captain suffered two crucial injuries which created a huge gap in the batting line-up of the Bronx Bombers. Despite the team missing on from the playoffs, Judge kept on performing at the highest level, thus earning this rating this year.
Ronald Acuna Jr.
One of the newest entries in the 99 rated club this year is Ronald Acuna Jr. The Atlanta Braves star just like Ohtani, had a magnificent season which saw him being honored with the National League MVP award.
Acuna. Jr sees a jump of plus seven in the ratings. Last year he was the third highest ranked played of the Braves with a 92 rating behind ace pitcher Spencer Strider (94) and Austin Riley (93). The first member of the 40-70 club would be hoping to maintain his ranking and perform just like that in the upcoming season.
Mookie Betts
The fifth member of the 99-rated club this year is another Dodgers star, Mookie Betts. Despite giving it all he had last season, Betts finished behind Acuna Jr. in the NL MVP race.
This though did not stopping him from being a top player this season. Betts jumps two rankings from MLB The Show 23 (97 in 2023). Now with Ohtani batting behind him, the Dodgers will be one team that pitchers would not like to go up against in both real and fictional life.
