“Best in the business”: Aaron Judge attains distinction with 45th, Yankees close in on third consecutive series loss
Aaron Judge
Aaron Judge continued his incredible hitting season on Wednesday, the New York Yankees were in Washington taking on the Seattle Mariners. The AL MVP front-runner blasted his Majors-leading-by-a-mile 45th homer of the year in a three-run seventh that gave the Yankees a brief 3-1 lead and chased Mariners starter Robbie Ray, last year’s AL Cy Young Award winner. Aaron Judge became the fifth Yankee to hit 45 or more home runs in a season multiple times, joining Mickey Mantle (2), Alex Rodriguez (2), Lou Gehrig (4) and Babe Ruth (9).
“I try not to, but people keep asking me that question,” Judge told Matt Snyder at the All-Star Game when asked whether he thinks about chasing 60 homers.
“… I might have a better answer at the end of the year if it happens. If I get to that point, we can talk about it. Until then, it’s just so hard. We’re only halfway through. Only being halfway there, it’s tough to talk about.”
Aaron Judge is on pace to hit 65 Home Runs in the 2022 season
Aaron Judge has hit 45 home runs this season and according to his homer pace, he is on route to hit 65 home runs. That would go on to create history in the books of New York Yankees records as, the players being chased by Aaron Judge are, 1961 Roger Maris (61), 1927 Babe Ruth (60), 1921 Babe Ruth (59).
If Aaron Judge wants to write his name in the Major League Baseball history, he would have to increase his pace as he is chasing Barry Bonds who had 73 in the 2001 season. There have been eight with at least 60 in MLB history.
- 2001 Barry Bonds: 73
- 1998 Mark McGwire: 70
- 1998 Sammy Sosa: 66
- 1999 Mark McGwire: 65
- 2001 Sammy Sosa: 64
- 1999 Sammy Sosa: 63
- 1961 Roger Maris: 61
- 1927 Babe Ruth: 60
Although the consecutive losses have slowed down the impact of Aaron Judge’s multiple home runs, “We know we’re going to be fine in the long run, but it gets more and more frustrating every day that we don’t come out with a win,”
Catcher Kyle Higashioka added. “We’re not satisfied with that. So this is the time of the season where you really need to pull together, because it’s a long year and it only gets tougher as it goes on.”
