Aaron Judge’s deal takes an EERIE turn with Mets, Yankees being investigated by MLB over alleged violation agreement
Hal Steinbrenner, Aaron Judge, and Steve Cohen
Just recently the New York Yankees were celebrating Anthony Rizzo’s return to the team, but things took a grim turn as Major League Baseball Association started investigating Aaron Judge’s offer. After Rizzo was locked down with a $40 million deal, the baseball world turned its eyes to Judge.
Every move made by the player and the teams are being watched over, especially the Yankees and New York Mets, considering they are being investigated by the league. The smoke started stinging the eyes after a report of November 3 was released by SNY.
As reported by Ken Rosenthal of The Athletics on Wednesday night, the MLB is looking into whether both the team’s owners Steve Cohen and Hal Steinbrenner have unfairly undergone any communication on Aaron Judge’s deal. Though it was stated that both owners respect each other, looking at the current scenario it’s drawing a completely different picture.

The SNY report stated, “Mets sources said that they did not plan to fight the Yankees this offseason for Judge.” It also noted, “enjoy a mutually respectful relationship, and do not expect to upend that with a high-profile bidding war.” This view originated after Judge rejected the Yankees’ 7-year $213.5 million offer before Opening Day.
Since then, Judge has not revised his decision on the Yankees’ offer, nor has spoken about joining any particular team for now. MLB is investigating if there are any violations of the collective bargaining agreement that states, “Clubs shall not act in concert with other Clubs”.
The Players Association has requested the Commissioner’s Office to look into the matter as a possible collusion to hold down or damage the player’s market is present. MLB has asked the two owners to cooperate and hand them their phone, text, and email records of the conversation between the two.
While the Giants remain the biggest threat to snatch Judge from the market, Dodgers also loom for a chance. Aside from them, the Mets had the highest payroll this season with $287 million. While having a committed $184 million for 2023, they are expected to make a splash in the 2023 market. While their own free agents are in line for a lucrative deal.
