As the second half of the MLB season kicks off, the pressure is very much on the New York Yankees to deliver. The side has had a poor season up to this point with accusations being waved at managers and players. The team is also missing their inspirational leader in the form of Aaron Judge through injury. However, there were signs of encouragement for the fans involved as the slugger was involved in his first batting practice on Friday.

The current American League MVP has been sidelined due to a toe injury since early June. Judge was caught up in a horrific incident at the Dodger Stadium. While attempting to make a play, he crashed into the fence at the wall. Though the injury looked less damaging at first viewing, Judge was ruled out for a long time. On Friday before the game against the Cubs, he took his first batting practice since that injury.

“I didn’t feel like I was limited at all,” Aaron Judge was reported as per the NY Post. Calling it as just another step, Judge added how he is slowly progressing to where he needs to be. Though a timeline on his return has not been announced yet, these are positive signs for the Yankees. Earlier reports had suggested that Judge could miss the entire season.

Aaron Judge’s return likely to play a crucial role in Yankees season

Aaron Judge has emerged as a crucial member of the team. His offensive prowess gives the Yankees the much-needed boost in their attack. Last season Judge hammered 62 home runs which helped the team reach the postseason. In a year where they have struggled to perform with him early on, his absence was always going to become a major factor.

The other major issue has been the inability of the other batters to take charge. Big names like Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres have both failed to live up to the high expectations. The struggles with the bat reached an all-time-low when batting coach Dillion Lawson was fired in the midst of the season. This was the first time a coach had been fired in the middle of the season under the reign of Brian Cashman.

While Judge’s news did give the Yankee fans something to smile about, they were disappointed by the team again. Carlos Rodon, starting his second game after returning from injury, once again struggled. A few days ago the fans had blasted the team for announcing a new jersey sponsor. The team found itself under the massive heat of fans again as they lost 7-2 to the Colorado Rockies on the first game after the ASG break.
