A-Rod might have been one of the biggest stars in contemporary baseball. However, his name and fame were all turned to dust when the revelations of the Biogenesis scandal showed his links with PED. In an interview with Joe Buck on the show Undeniable, A-Rod when on to say,

“I remember sitting there at night at maybe 4 or 5 o’clock in the morning — I probably did this a hundred nights — and I would look up with tears and say, ‘How the ‘F’ did I get myself in this position? I’m the only jackass that has pocket aces and figures out a way to lose the hand.”

In 2014, Rodriguez, following the reports from the Biogenesis scandal, was found to have been using Steroids as a PED for his games. He was sentenced to 162 match ban for the entirety of the 2014 season.

When he looks back to this phase, A-Rod remembered some of the most significant losses he had to face career-wise, including a berth at the hall of fame. He said,

“There’s so many frustrating things when you look back at that. Number one, you have a guaranteed contract for hundreds of millions of dollars. Literally, you can sit on the couch and get fat. Right? How stupid can you be? … This thing cost me over $40 million. And it cost me my reputation, and it may have cost me the Hall of Fame and a number of other things.”

Rodriguez’s reasoning behind the drug use was to manage his chronic back pain and for boosting his batting statistics.

He is further concerned about whether his daughters will be affected by this phase of his life. He adds,

“The hardest thing I had to do, I had to admit to Natasha and Ella the mistake that I made. And I needed [ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis] to be part of that. I told Cynthia, ‘When I sit down with the girls, they’re gonna be listening to me, but they’re gonna be looking at you, and chances are I’m not gonna make it past first base because I’m gonna probably start breaking down.’ And sure enough, I almost didn’t get out of home plate.”

A-Rod had an illustrious career in baseball, spanning 22 teams and three franchises. He has scored 669 home runs, the fourth-highest in MLB history. Rodriguez has earned around $437 million in earnings from the sport.
