The legend of Alex Rodriguez has seen plenty of ups and downs in his career. The former New York Yankees player continues to be the main piece of attraction even in 2023. He has now opened up about how unhappy he was on seeing Joey Gallo get his number “13” jersey.

A-Rod would don the number “13” on his back while playing for the Yankees. Despite his off-field issues, he has played an instrumental role in the rise of the Yankees over the years. The third baseman was seemingly left unimpressed that the Yanks decided to hand over his number to Gallo.

Gallo has not been a fan favorite during his time with the Yankees. After leaving the club he spoke about he was not happy with the rules and regulations set by the New York side. Some fans were initially thrilled to see the jersey of A-Rod being passed down to someone else due to the player’s past connections with performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).

While speaking with WFan Sports Radio, A-Rod was asked how he felt when the side gave his number to Gallo. While appearing to laugh it off, the 2009 World Series winner said, “It did not make me happy.”

Alex Rodriguez claims working as an analyst not helping his case to go down in Yankees folklore

The numbers Alex Rodriguez produced over the years were astonishing. However, due to his history with the usage of drugs, he might not be allowed in the MLB Hall of Fame. He has now claimed that he would like to go down in the Yankees history books but his current work as an analyst is not helping his case.

A-Rod has been working as an analyst for Fox now. He along with his former Derek Jeter and David Ortiz could be seen talking about a game while having some fun. He also criticized the Yankees on many moments this season where they struggled.

"I'm too critical to the Yankees, and that doesn't help my case. But I get paid to tell the truth and if you guys ask me a question I'm going to tell you guys exactly as I see it and not sugarcoat it because I want my number retired".

Will the Yankees ever retire the number of Rodriguez and celebrate his success? That answer only lies in the hands of the organization. A theory was suggested during this interview that, the longer the Yankees fail to win the World Series, the more chances are that his legacy of 2009 will be celebrated.

That year was the last time the Bronx Bombers tasted victory in the Fall Classic. Since then the wait for a 28th World Series title has been going on for them. As current things stand, the Yankees needed a major turnaround next year to possibly end that drought.
