In the game of baseball, tensions are always high. The batters and pitchers always hope to turn out to be the hero to change the game. Sometimes the pressure gets the better of players and they commit huge mistakes. In the game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres, Angel Perdomo not only gave up a home run but was later ejected for drilling Manny Machado.

Perdomo was brought in as a relief pitcher in the seventh inning. The former Brewers southpaw was making his third appearance for the Pirates. He would give a home run to Juan Soto. The game was very much in the balance at a score of 2-1 when he conceded the home run to Soto. On the very next pitch, he tossed a 98 mph fastball at Machado. The Padres slugger was left agitated, and the umpires had a long discussion.

Perdomo and Machado would then march toward each other, exchanging a few words. After talking about it, the umpires ejected the Dominican Republican pitcher after pitching just six pitches. The crowd agreed with the decision with a huge roar, annoyed by the tactic of the pitcher.

Twitter reacts as Angel Perdomo gets tossed

According to the umpires, the action by Angel Perdomo was labeled as intentional. Whether it is actually intentional or just a mistake is up for debate. The Padres fans and Manny Machado certainly felt like the action was intended. Perdomo was not the only one tossed from the game, though. His manager Derek Shelton was also dismissed by the umpires for trying to speak in his pitcher’ defense.

Machado has never been shy of showing off his emotions. The slugger has established himself as a modern great and recently recorded his 300th career home run. He was also stuck by a pitch in June against the Orioles. The Padres fanbase is hoping for him to stay fit as their season continues to go downward despite this win. After the game, Machado would address the situation. He started by laughing that he would be mad too if he gave up such a bomb. “I guess people don’t people anymore,” the Padres star said. Meanwhile, Soto would too speak on the incident and gave Perdomo a piece of advice. “If you don’t want to give up homers, strike out people,” Soto claimed.

The Pirates started the season in spectacular fashion but have since fallen off. This loss evened the series as their record got worse to 44-57. At one stage, they were leading the NL central table. Now they are bottom of the standings with 11.5 games behind the leaders Brewers.
