The saga of Anthony Rendon and his time with the Los Angeles Angels has another chapter. The hitter has become famous for his sharp answers in interviews without dwelling too much. He was under severe backlash from fans recently for pretending not to speak English and was called “a disgrace”. He has now finally opened up about his injury.
Rendon has been missing action for around two months now. His time in LA has been hit by several injuries and was once again unfortunate to find himself on the injured list. He has claimed that he has suffered a fractured tibia. The slugger got injured while fouling a fastball off his knee on July 4th.
“A lot of people don’t know about it,” Rendon started off. “Tibia fractures take forever. It was a fracture. I got images. I was still in pain,” he further added before saying that he reached out to more doctors to learn about his injury status and why he kept feeling pain.
In this rare appearance with the media, he was further asked why the Angels did not announce it. Usually when a player gets injured, the team announces the reason for it and how long it could take them to make a return. In this case, the Angels had not announced the injury of Rendon as a tibia fracture, something that is raising questions and creating confusion among fans.
Anthony Rendon throws LA Angels under the bus for not announcing his correct injury
Anthony Rendon’s time at the Los Angeles Angels has been underwhelming, to say the least. The 2019 World Series winner with the Washington Nationals, has struggled for consistent game time while dealing with numerous injuries. The season did not start off well for him as he was suspended for four games for his altercation with a fan on the opening day.
After signing a long-term deal with them, the third baseman has struggled to even play a total of 60 games in all of his seasons with them. He has now thrown the team under the bus for not announcing the correct details about his injury. “You have to ask them,” Rendon said when questioned why the Angels did so. The team’s GM Perry Minasian refused to comment on the situation. Their manager Phil Nevin though has acknowledged how Rendon was receiving images as well. He though added that the timeline for a bone bruise and fracture is the same.
While claiming he is not on the medical side of it, he explained how the injuries are similar and that he has to wait for the same amount of time to return. “Bone bruise, fracture, either way, he’s unable to play right now. A bone bruise and fracture, it’s all treated the same,” Nevin added in his response.
Whether he will be able to return this season is also something that cannot be said with certainty. It has turned out to be another poor season for him and the Angels as the team once again went off track at the wrong time and is likely to miss out on postseason baseball again.
