“Whole arm died for a second”: Anthony Rizzo hit by pitch again; says he ought to return soon
Anthony Rizzo
If we tell you a player named Anthony Rizzo has been hit 189 times by the pitch, would you not feel sad for the man? How many hard hits can one take, right? Anthony Rizzo once again proved to be ironclad as he claims he would be back soon even after an agonizing exit in the match against Oakland Athletics.
He was pulled out of the game on Monday with concerns that he might have taken a strong on this time as the pain was directed towards his elbow. Anthony Rizzo was hit in the elbow in the seventh inning of the 9-5 Oakland Athletic win in the Bronx Stadium, he initially stayed in the game but was taken out in the eighth as Matt Carpenter struck.
The New York Yankees will have to wait a little bit longer before getting Aroldis Chapman back. The left-hander will make one more rehab appearance at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday before being activated as he works his way back from an Achilles injury, manager Aaron Boone said Monday.

Anthony Rizzo says he’ll get past elbow injury, took a 95.5 mph sinker directly on his right elbow
After taking a hit by a 95.5 mph sinker from Athletics left-hander A.J. Puk in the seventh inning, Anthony Rizzo couldn’t handle the pain in the eighth. “The whole arm just went dead there for a second,” Rizzo said. “I would have been fine to hit but just being smart, getting on it right away definitely helped.”
The first baseman, Anthony Rizzo, who hit his 20th home run of the season to get the Yankees on the board in the first inning on Monday, has now been hit 11 times this season. He has led the majors in the category three times over his 12-year career, with an astounding 189 times hit by pitch.

“He got smoked pretty good in the elbow there,” New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “Probably started to stiffen up on him. It was kinda like, let’s get him in, get some ice on it and try and nip this now.”
Anthony Rizzo himself said he ‘should be’ good for the next Yankee game. Boone said he’s hopeful he can pencil Rizzo in at the first base, but it’s too early to say for sure. “He wasn’t too concerned about it and he gets hit a lot, getting on the plate as he does. So, he’s used to that,” Boone explained. “But this one got him pretty good so we’ll see.”
