“But he looked harmless”- Harsh fate awaited Astros fan after storming field to get selfie with 8-time All-Star Jose Altuve
Astros fan arrested for getting close with Jose Altuve
Jose Altuve’s die-hard fan plunged on the field last Thursday during a match against the New York Yankees in the ninth inning, causing a ruckus in the game. As the Astros were trying to close Game 2 of the ALCS, they were surprised by an unwelcome guest.
Though the situation was handled calmly by the 8-time All-Star winner, harsh fate awaited the fan. After being escorted by security off the field, the organization revealed the punishment for the intruder just recently. As a punishment, the fan was banned from MLB games.
We have to give it up for Jose Angel Alvarado (the fan), who made all his way to Jose Altuve and got to hug the player before the security jumped in. Later that day, Altuve stated, that the situation didn’t feel threatening to him, and he was even thinking of indulging the fan’s request.
Jose Altuve tried to downplay the fan intrusion incident as per report
Alvarado has previous records of criminal trespassing, recorded on October 20, according to a report by Jonathan Limehouse of the Houston Chronicle. As per Limehouse, Alvarado said, “(Jose Altuve) told me we can take a selfie, but by the time I changed my camera, that’s when the security got me”.
Astros manager Dusty Baker, though condemned the man, also stated that even he didn’t think the situation was harmful in any way. He praised Altuve for his way of tackling the fan in question, while stating, “I mean, what he did was wrong, but he looked harmless”.
“It looked like he was doing it out of love and respect for Altuve. And I think Altuve handled it very well.” Though many have thought the action and punishment for it was too much, it is undeniable that Alvarado’s actions were not just.
Even though the fan didn’t get a selfie with the 2017 World Series Champion, he did get to hug the star player, even if it was only for a brief moment. Altuve tried to downplay the situation, saying that Alvarado said “we need to win” and he wanted “to take a selfie” before the security intervened.
The sudden barging didn’t affect the match as the Astros wiped out the Yankees in their fifth consecutive win at the start of the postseason. The team hosted the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.
