In his previous two seasons, he has finished in the top ten in the National League MVP award. This has proved how much he has improved in times gone by. Despite being one of the most adored players in the franchise, fans were left in shock after hearing his list of Mount Rushmore of the third baseman.

In a hilarious moment, Riley named the likes of Nolan Arenado, Mike Schmidt, Cal Ripken, and Alex Rodriguez. The four players mentioned by him have left a huge mark on the field and have inspired generations to come. The Braves fans were left a little uncomfortable after Riley skipped the name of a particular Braves legend, Chipper Jones.

Well, one can give Riley the benefit of the doubt. In the interview, he was clearly struggling to come up with names and it could be a good reason that he forgot the name of Jones. It was a difficult question so it the fans might let him off the hooks easily. To make matters more interesting, the MLB great is the hitting coach of the Braves. Speaking of Jones, the Braves legend spent his entire career in Atlanta and was named to the MLB Hall of Fame in 2018.

After the video went viral, the fans were quick to remind him of his mistake. The following day, Riley issued an apology for his unexpected slip-up and informed him personally by having a conversation with the baseball great. He later mentioned that everything was clear between them and it was just an honest mistake.

I probably forgot the most important guy in Chipper, and I apologized formally to him. We are good, it’s water under the bridge,” Austin Riley explained. He, however, did not say who he would replace Chipper in his list of Mount Rushmore for the third baseman.

Jones made his debut in 1993. He spent 19 years in Atlanta and was a key figure in his side’ 1995 World Series triumph against the Cleveland Indians. An eight-time All-star in his own right, Jones would see his number 10 jersey being retired by the Braves as a gesture of honor. He entered the MLB Hall of Fame in 2018 as a first ballot entry.

In 2021, he took over the job of coaching. He was hired as a part-time consultant for hitting. For all his hard work and efforts, he received his second World Series ring as the Braves came out on top against the Houston Astros in the 2021 Fall Classic. Riley would be hoping the Braves faithful look the other side for this one and forgive him.
