“He makes you BO-LIEVE”: Bo Bichette hammers 2-run HR after a smashing hit-by-pitch on head by Javy Guerra

Bo Bichette is living the limelight he deserved after last week’s Player of The Week proves his worth yet again giving the Toronto Blue Jays a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in Monday’s series opener at Rogers Centre. Bo had 5 HRs, 13 RBIs and 1.686 OPS last week.

The margins are very thin between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays for the American League Wild Card standings. Raimel Tapia led off the bottom of the eighth with a single against Jason Adam (2-3) and stole second, Bo Bichette hit a two-run homer with two out in the bottom of the 8th.

“I’m definitely focused,” said Bo Bichette after his startling performance. “I think the time of the year helps. A lot of big games, and we need all of them. So that’s my focus, to win games.”

Before he hit the home run, he was charged up by a pitch by Javy Guerra after which Bo Bichette dropped to his knees and smashed his bat on the ground in anger, it was a 97.1 m.p.h. pitch that hit his forearm and narrowly missed his head on Monday.

Bo Bichette’s 24th home run of the season came right after he was hit-by-pitch, Rays reliever Javy Guerra missed his face by mere inches. “I just saw my life flash before my eyes,” Bo Bichette joked. “I was scared, that’s it.”

“I just love the competitiveness. I love that everyone kept their composure,” said Blue Jays interim manager John Schneider. “It says a lot about them. They’re a confident group, they’re obviously a close group and they’re focused on the task at hand.”

“If tensions are running a little bit high, that’s OK. A lot of the guys in there know how to reel it in and still compete, still focus on what they have to do.”
