As the 2023 MLB regular season reaches its conclusion, there seems to be some bad blood between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago Cubs. While the Pirates are on the brink of being eliminated, the Cubs are right into the mix in a late push for the play-off spots. They currently occupy the final wild-card spot in the National League and are one game ahead of the Miami Marlins.
In this tricky situation, the Cubs cannot afford to go off track. This is what happened in their recent meeting against the Pirates, where they lost two games out of the three-game series. Their manager, David Ross, criticized the team for their effort. However, the manager made a statement regarding the Pirates, which was not well received by Bryan Reynolds.
After demolishing the Pirates 14-1 in the first game, the Cubs suffered back-to-back defeats. A 13-7 and 8-6 loss in two games condemned the 2016 World Series winners to two straight defeats.“That’s not a good team that just took two out of three from us – or not our caliber, I believe. We have to turn it around. It’s on me. It’s on the guys in the room,” their manager said.
David Ross said after their 8-6 loss. His side would bounce back from this setback and record a 6-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies. However, he fired his shot, which has since seen several criticisms labeled at him.
Bryan Reynolds slams David Ross for his statement regarding Pittsburgh Pirates
While the Pittsburgh Pirates have endured another poor season, they have done a little better than last time out. They started off the season in strong style, winning seven games on the bounce. However, they were unable to produce results with consistency, which has now seen them close to being eliminated.
Bryan Reynolds, who has once again been the star of the Pirates, did not like the comments from Ross. He clapped back at him and claimed they could use this comment as motivation for the future. “We can use this as motivation. If we’re such a bad team, maybe he should have managed his team a little better and beat us,” he was quoted by SI.
Reynolds struggled in the series against the Cubs. He went 1-for-11 during the three-game span, which has seen his batting average drop a bit. He is now playing with a .269 average while hitting 24 home runs and collecting 77 RBIs. With his side 7.5 games behind and nine games to play, their season is almost over. They would be hoping to end on a positive note.
