“One man down”- Cade Cavalli placed on National’s 15-day IL

Due to inflammation in his shoulder, right-hander Cade Cavalli of the Washington Nationals was placed on the injured list on Tuesday. According to the Washington Post, Cade Cavalli will miss two weeks of action. The Nationals’ final game of the regular season is set for October 5, which is five weeks away. That implies Cavalli’s chances of returning before the offseason are slim. Cavalli, 24, was selected by Washington in the first round of the 2020 draught and just made his major league debut last Friday.

“Everything looks good, except for he has a little bit of inflammation around the capsule,” manager Dave Martinez tells Jessica Camerato of MLB.com. “But the labrum, tendons, the rotator cuff, everything is very, very clean,” Martinez tells Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com that they’re not taking him out of the season because they want him to attempt to get better soon rather than just concentrating on next year’s Spring Training.

Cade Cavalli will be added to the 15-day injured list, according to a tweet from Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post. The problem doesn’t appear to be too serious at this time. According to Dougherty, Cavalli experienced some discomfort the day after his race and sought medical attention. An MRI revealed inflammation but no structural damage.

Cory Abbott optioned to fill in for Cade Cavalli

Fans of the club will undoubtedly find solace in the fact that the situation is not very serious, but the news must also be at least slightly discouraging. The team began a rebuild just over a year ago by trading away many of its top players, including Max Scherzer and Trea Turner. This season, the club furthered their predicament by dealing Josh Bell and Juan Soto.

The development of young players, Cavalli among the most exciting, was something for supporters to look forward to amid all of that removal from the big league roster. After just one big league start, he is already leaving for the IL and might not even play again this year. Cavalli may perhaps bounce back and eliminate this slight setback in the long run.

The team will need to temporarily fill a void in the rotation. When Cavalli was called up, Cory Abbott was optioned, and he might be a candidate to come back. If a player is going on the injured list, there is an exception to the rule that they must sit out for at least 10 days before being added back to the team. Abbott was scheduled to throw today in Rochester, the location of Washington’s Triple-A club, but was postponed, according to Dougherty.
