The Colorado Rockies were looking for Chad Kuhl’s level of energy. They returned home after a 1-5 road trip, and have been last in the National League West every day since May 10. Left fielder Kris Bryant’s return from a back injury offered some promise. Monday’s start of a 17-game stretch against NL West nemesis offered at least a chance to improve their roster’s confidence.
Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black, felt sheltered when Kuhl entered the ninth inning at just 87 pitches. He wanted him to go all the way even though closer Daniel Bard was warming up in the bullpen.

“I’ve been in the ninth before, just out of the bullpen,” Chad Kuhl said. “It wasn’t my first time, technically, in the ninth inning. “I was able to keep my emotion and adrenaline in check and still execute pitches.”
“I’ve got a lot more people than that in my corner,” Chad added, “They were super-fired up. My brother-in-law, my brother and my sister, were all calling me at the same time. I can’t wait to reach out to all of them.”
