“Bro thinks he’s talking basketball” – MLB Twitter takes HILARIOUS swipe at Colin Cowherd for learning MLB rules while proposing BIZZARE trade deal regarding Shohei Ohtani
Colin Cowherd was recently talking with Jason McIntyre about trading Shohei Ohtani in exchange of first round draft picks. He later found that current MLB rules do not permit this from taking place

As the MLB season rolls on toward the deadline day, the talks of trade and business have increased. While several players continue to join other teams, the name of Shohei Ohtani keeps on grabbing the attention. The LA Angels superstar has been the talk of the town regarding his future. Recently, Colin Cowherd praised his qualities and called him the greatest baseball ever. This time he once again talked about this trade, but learned a big lesson on the way.
Cowherd has been a marquee name in NFL and NBA audiences. He has talked about these two sports on several occasions. On baseball, he has not spoken much so fans were curious when he talked about Ohtani. In a recent episode, he hilariously found out his MLB knowledge as he made a mistake.
On a recent episode of his show “The Herd”, he was joined by Jason McIntyre to discuss the situation regarding Ohtani. Previously the two-way star was linked with a trade move to the LA Dodgers in return for top three-four draft picks. Cowherd later realized that this trade move would not be entertained. This was not because of the structure of Ohtani, but simply because of the rules.
According to official MLB rules, teams are ineligible to trade their first and second rounds picks. In his fairness, Cowherd did mention that he is a “baseball casual” after finding out about this rule. However, the damage was done on national television. This has since then sparked laughter among the baseball community.

Twitter reacts as Colin Cowherd suggests strange trade deal regarding Shohei
Shohei Ohtani is one of the greatest players to ever step on a baseball field. The Japanese star has amazed the fans so many times, that they have run out of objectives to describe him. The question about his future is on the minds of everyone involved with baseball. If Ohtani does not get traded, he will hit free agency in the off-season.
Several experts have laid out their “mock trades” for teams regarding Ohtani. Cowherd’s suggestion was a little different from others. He said it would take “five first-round picks, your best prospect, your third-best prospect and two solid starters.” While the suggestion was not bad, it simply is not allowed under the rules. Twitter was quick to point out this and trolled him and McIntyre for this.
Under the current MLB rules, only competitive draft balance picks are allowed to be traded. These picks are given to the ten teams with the smallest markets and who are in the bottom ten of the revenue chart, to restore balance. It would interesting to watch which team Ohtani switches to.
