It seems there is no separating Derek Jeter from New York. The MLB great spent his entire career in this city while appearing for the New York Yankees His contributions as “The Captain” of the team earned him high praise. His love for this city was once again reflected when he refused to sport a cowboy hat gifted by David Ortiz.

Jeter along with Ortiz has come a long way. The two Hall of Famers have gone from bitter rivals to great colleagues over the years. The rivalry between the Yankees and the Boston Red Sox also played a major part in it. Now working as a Fox Analyst, Ortiz tried to gift Jeter a cowboy hat as they were in the state of Texas to cover the ALCS.

The Fox crew of Jeter and Ortiz have been covering the ALCS matchup between the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers with fellow former star Alex Rodriguez and Kevin Burkhardt. Cowboy hats and clothes are very popular with the state of Texas and Ortiz once again tried to have some fun with his colleagues.

While Burkhardt and A-Rod went along the plan of Ortiz, Jeter refused to do so.

This is also not the first time Jeter has rejected a gift from Ortiz. While he made his Fox debut, “Big Papi” decided to gift the five-time World Series winner a customized Red Sox jersey. The jersey had Jeter’s name on the back, so he immediately tossed it away.

While Derek Jeter may have refused to wear a cowboy hat gifted by David Ortiz, this was not the first time he had received such a gift. During his final year in the MLB, several teams showed their appreciation for him by gifting him souvenirs. The Houston Astros did so too and gifted him a pair of cowboy boots, a hat, and a golf set.

Jeter has been fond of golf and has taken part in the sport on several occasions. He was pleased by the reception given by the Astros and claimed he would combine all of them together and each a nice afternoon sometime in the future.

Whether he ever used that is still a mystery but he did acknowledge the cowboy at that time. The game where he received this gift saw the Astros prevail 3-1 over the Yankees and Jeter.

Times have changed though and obviously, Jeter could not refuse the gift at that time. The move of his refusing the gift from David Ortiz also highlights the close relationship the two legends share these days where they can laugh and have fun in serious times.
