Fernando Tatis Jr, who was given an 80-game ban for using Clostebol, has spent the past couple of days making amends with team personnel. On Tuesday, he also apologized to his teammates. “I know I have a lot of love I have to gain back, and I have a lot of work to do,” he said. “It’s going to be a very long process to gain everybody’s trust.”

Tatis Jr. said that without consulting the team doctors, he started taking Clostebol in June as part of a medical regimen to cure a skin issue. He claimed to have kept using the drug up until his positive test results in late July. Fernando Tatis Jr. said he thought about appealing for a few weeks, but when it became clear he wasn’t going to succeed, he decided to accept the suspension, which was formally announced on August 12.

Fernando Tatis Jr. mentioned that he will undergo surgery to fix the shoulder problem that caused several subluxations the previous season. Tatis Jr. decided against having the surgery in the offseason, which disappointed the squad. He stated that the procedure will be performed “ASAP,” and he anticipates being able to play when his suspension is over in April or May of next year.

Tatis Jr. promises to stick with the team in the meantime despite being prohibited from entering the ballpark during matches. The first time he had done so since the suspension was on Tuesday during a players-only meeting. Based on the stories of individuals involved, Tatis Jr. was serious in his apologies, which were largely accepted within the Padres’ clubhouse.

“We’ve all made dumb mistakes that we regret,” said Manny Machado. “But we’ve just got to move past it and learn from it and hold yourself accountable. Today, he came in here and spoke to the group, and said what he needed to say. At the end of the day, we’re all family here.”
