“Got a lot of ‘dawg’ in us”: Gerrit Cole misses yet another no-hitter
Gerrit Cole
A league ERA title and four All-Star appearances are some honours one could locate in Gerrit Cole’s personal trophy case, but could one imagine that the star right-handed pitcher has never stolen a no-hitter in his professional career – a fact that generates surprise in every corner of the Yankees’ clubhouse.
Gerrit Cole went deep with his no-hit bid at the Tropicana Field, pacing the length of the visiting dugout. Every fan must have been hoping that Gerrit Cole sees the no-no through. But Isaac Parades’ leadoff single in the eighth inning ended Cole’s efforts once again.
Yankees rallied for a 4-2 victory over the Rays on Monday, his teammates agreed: Sooner or later, Cole will have his date with history. Talking about the particular individual stats from the showdown on Monday, Cole registered 12 strikeouts over 7 1/3 dominant innings. On the other hand, 29-year-old Holmes witnessed his scoreless-innings streak end at 31 1/3 frames.

When will Gerrit Cole’s ‘NO-HITTER’ drought end?
“Every night he goes out there, he has the chance to do that. It’s really, really impressive,” Jose Trevino spoke about Gerrit Cole after the showdown on Monday. “The way he prepares, the way he comes out and performs and toes the rubber, I’ve been nothing but impressed with him.”
Starting pitching has been a strength for the New York-based franchise. Moreover. They have seen four instances of a pitcher carrying a no-hit bid into the 7th innings in the 2022 season itself. However, this was Gerrit’s second time, having also fired 6 2/3 hitless innings on earlier this month against the mighty Tigers.

“I think we’ve just got a lot of ‘dawg’ in us,” Cole said. “We love to play every pitch. Whether we’re winning or whether we’re losing, it’s just a focus on one pitch at a time. Everybody is kind of taking care of their business for their teammates, really.”
Having said that, New York Yankees have registered a tally of 12 no-hitters in franchise history. Out of which the latest of which was Corey Kluber’s against the Rangers on May 19, 2021, respectively.
