“The game you tell your kids about”- Giancarlo Stanton’s laser grand slam fetches him a spot in MLB’s “ultimate slam” club
Giancarlo Stanton
At the Yankees stadium on Tuesday, Giancarlo Stanton hit an unimaginable walk-off grand slam, leading the New York Yankees to their 9-8 win against the Pirates. This being Giancarlo Stanton’s third walk-off grand slam of his career, it puts him in a tie with 3 others for the most career grand slams by a player in MLB history. “It’s about damn time,” Stanton said. “I finally, finally produced from being back.”
This is how Aaron Judge who hits his 60th homer in the same match reacted to it,- “If he hangs anything in the zone right here, he’s going to do some damage. And sure enough, right when he hit it, that’s a signature Giancarlo Stanton laser to the outfield. So I had a good front-row seat for that one, and I think the whole team lost it’s mind and the stadium erupted. That was a pretty special moment right there.”
Giancarlo Stanton goes unaffected by the boos
Despite all the negative comments and the boos Giancarlo Stanton, stayed calm and proved to all the Yankees fans what he is capable of. His walk-off grand slam didn’t only gain Stanton a place in MLB’s “ultimate slam” club, but also got the Yankees their 15th walk-off win of the season.
“For (Stanton), he’s not going to be affected by the moment or anything like that,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s up here to do a job, and I know he’s locked in on that.” With a .130 and .463 OPS in Tuesday’s match Giancarlo Stanton is still on his way to regain his old form.
“He’s one of the biggest pieces of our offense, if not the biggest. When he gets hot, there’s no telling what he’s going to do on a nightly basis,” Judge said. “Even tonight, he had a couple of rough at-bats to begin with, but the guy, he didn’t care. He’s getting booed, doesn’t matter. That just shows you how mentally tough he is. He’s a leader in that clubhouse, and we ride and die with everybody,” quipped Judge.
