There is a saying that states what goes up must come down. When something is on the rise it will eventually fall one day. This has now happened with the MLB side Houston Astros, who after sweeping their rivals Texas Rangers and flying high on momentum, came crashing down to earth following their 4-0 loss to the Oakland Athletics.
While winning and losing are a part of the game and one day someone will lose. However, the form these two sides are in, very few would have given the A’s any chance to salvage a positive result. The team who are enduring another poor season not only beat them but defeated them comfortably while slamming three home runs.
The A’s dominated from the start as pitcher Mason Miller registered his first win of the season. Meanwhile, his counterpart, Framber Valdez suffered another tough outing at the plate. He gave the first two home runs which proved catastrophic as the Astros suffered an unlikely loss.
For Valdez, this was his 10th loss of the season. Despite throwing a no-hitter in August, the Astros starter has failed to deliver with consistency. The offense of the Astros was also nowhere to be seen as they only managed to pick up three hits.

The Oakland Athletics on Monday registered their 45th win of the season. This came after they blew the Houston Astros 4-0 apart. While there is no disrespecting the Athletics, they currently possess one of the worst records this season. They are currently 45-99 with another eventual defeat seeing them lose their 100th game of the season.
The team has now at least delayed that. However, for the Astros, this was an unwanted loss. With the postseason race going right down the wire, the fight for the latter stages has intensified. The AL West division especially is the tightest group with the Astros, Mariners, and Rangers all trying to secure the division. Twitter (now called X) had some interesting reactions to the Astros’ loss. Here are a few of them.
“This was probably the best pitching performance we’ve had all year,” Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said after the game. Last year, the A’s finished with a disappointing 60-102 record. This year the record seems to get even worse. Another win though would see them assurance of avoiding their worst season finish where they lost 117 games.
The Astros will only be looking to put this behind their back and hope for a fresh start on Tuesday. They currently hold a two-game lead over their division rivals as the final three weeks roll on.
