The Houston Astros are getting back in form at the very right time. The reigning champions had been under fire for most of the season but now seem to have risen from the ashes. Up until the past two to three weeks, it looked as though the Texas Rangers would run away with the division title. Their rivals though had other ideas and showed indeed why they were the defending champions.

After getting swept by the New York Yankees, pressure grew on the Astros to deliver. With the sudden emergence of the Seattle Mariners, the American West division has got tighter than before. The sweep at their home came as a big blow as the Mariners dethroned them and the Rangers to take up the top spot. The Astros continued their dominance from the first two games and completed a historic sweep of the Rangers.

The match itself was one for the history books. It saw the pitching duel of two former New York Mets teammates, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. The duo had an underwhelming time at the Mets and were traded away during the trade deadline. This marked the first time in over 15 years that two pitchers with both having 3,000 or more strikeouts faced off against each other.

The headlines in the first two games were stolen by Jose Altuve. He slammed three consecutive home runs in game two which helped his side register a 14-1 thumping win. This time the Rangers looked to put up some fight as Marcus Semien hit a home off the first pitch to make it 2-1. However, despite his best efforts, Jose Abreu this time stole the spotlight as his grand slam condemned the Rangers to another defeat.

Sweeping your opponents in baseball is considered a big achievement. It usually shows off the dominance of one side compared to the other side’s vulnerability. To sweep your rivals is something more sweeter than a normal sweep. The Astros got the taste of it in one of the most dominant ways as they crushed the Texas Rangers.

They would the win series by scoring 39 runs in three games. The scorelines of 13-6, 14-1, and 12-3, signaled who the better team was at the moment. Another historic feat that the Astros achieved was they became the third different team apart from the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox to have three successive games the five or more home runs. Twitter was running wild as the Astros swept the Rangers in their own backyard. Here are some reactions to it.

The Astros will now lock in with the San Diego Padres. After this, they embark on a six-game run against the two statically worst teams, the Kansas City Royals and the Oakland Athletics. If the Rangers do not pick form now, their lead of 3 games which the Astros have, could be extended further.
