New York Mets’ player and two-time NL Cy Young award winner, Jacob deGrom played a side session and is supposed to make yet another minor league rehab start. Though New York’s manager Buck Showalter said he wouldn’t publicly disclose when and where deGrom will pitch next.

Right-hander DeGrom, 34, hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since July 7 of last year. His right forearm tightness and injured elbow kept him out of action for the second half of last season, and stress response in his right scapula has kept him out of action since late in spring training.

Jacob deGrom will make what could be his final rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse, while Max Scherzer will likely pitch for the Mets against the Yankees at Citi Field. DeGrom will face the Omaha Storm Chasers, a Royals affiliate, on six days’ rest after throwing 60 pitches in a simulated game in Port St. Lucie on Thursday.

If he is deemed ready after Wednesday, the right-hander could begin his season in Washington on Monday or Tuesday. Jacob deGrom made three injury rehabilitation appearances in the minors. Throwing 24 pitches over 1⅔ innings on July 3 and 36 over three innings on July 8, both for Class A St. Lucie, then 42 over four innings for Triple-A Syracuse on July 14.

We’ll see how he feels tomorrow and what the plan is for him to make a start somewhere during the coming week. And we’ll see where that takes us,” says Showalter. “I know what the plan is. But if something happens that makes us deviate from that plan, we will, which we have a couple of times, just barely, a day or two.
