After showing signs of a promising start, the Seattle Mariners have lost their edge recently. The team has been inconsistent throughout the season, leaving them with a 24-24 record. Their run of form has seen very mixed results over the last couple of days. As a result of this, the team finds themselves six games behind the Texas Rangers in the AL West standings.
One of the major reasons for their recent decline has been their offense. The Mariners have struggled at the plate. One player though has done well with the bat for them, Jarred Kelenic. The hitter has continued to turn around his fortune this year.
He has been one of the good talking points of a disappointing season so far. On Monday night, he recorded three hits including a home run in a topsy-turvy victory over the Oakland Athletics. With that home-run, he joined an exclusive club in the Seattle Mariners history.
With his tenth home run of the season, he joined former Mariners third basemen and baseball great Alex Rodriguez to become the fastest Mariners player aged 23 or younger, to hit ten home runs in a season. Rodriguez achieved this feat in 1999 by hitting ten home runs in 31 games of the season.

Jarred Kelenic is becoming the knight of Seattle Mariners
One of the shining armors this season for the Seattle Mariners has no doubt been Jarred Kelenic. The 23-year-old was called one of the hottest prospects in baseball a few years ago. His stunning performances got him drafted to the New York Mets in 2018. The dream moves to a big team and quickly turned into an unwanted nightmare for him.
Perhaps the expectations and hype were too much for his young shoulders. Kelenic failed to make the cut at the Mets and was drafted in December, less than six months after joining them. He would then find himself at the Mariners.
As time went by, Kelenic’s performances started to decline and his form took a massive hit. The journey from the senior team to the minor team became a routine cycle for him. However, his hard work and patience have paid off this season.
His form has completely turned around this season. He has been batting with an average of .297 with 10 home runs and 25 RBIs to his name. His previous two seasons saw him hit with a mere average of .181 and .141. This amazing form has seen him hit some biggies this season.
He has now sneaked into the AL MVP award this season. Surely it would be too much for him to win it, but baseball is an unpredictable game where strange things have happened before. If the Mariners want to turn around their season, he is got to be the key man for them.
