As the month of September starts, it is common for teams to bring up top prospects into the team. This move is usually done to give the young stars some key exposure as the regular season enters its final month. On Friday, the New York Yankees gave debuts to their top prospects Jasson Dominguez and Austin Wells. The former had a memorable debut as he made an instant impact.

Dominguez, 20, has been popular for his skills in the minor leagues. Nicknamed “The Martian”, he is known for his hitting ability. The rookie was able to show the world why he is considered one of the best. In his first at-bat in the major leagues, he smashed a home run. It just was not some normal home run. It came off veteran pitcher Justin Verlander, who is twice his age (40).

The switch-hitting batter was able to scoop up a fastball from Verlander. His family present in the stands would erupt in joy as the rising star rounded off the bases following a historic hit. He became the second Yankee rookie to hit a home run in his first at-bat in their MLB debut. The first? Their current captain Aaron Judge did this in 2016.

This helped the Yankees take a 3-0 lead. They were able to hold their ground from there on and get one over Verlander who has been dominant against them in the recent past. “I was surprised. I didn’t think I was going to get here so fast. Very happy though,” Dominguez said after the game.

The NY Yankees have not had a great season this year. The team has struggled for consistent performances which has seen their season being derailed off the tracks. They are currently at the last spot in the AL East division, 9.5 games behind the third wild card spot. They are facing a likely early elimination this season. So the team decided to call up some young guns to try out something new.

The move somehow worked out well for them. Both young prospects Jasson Dominguez and Austin Wells had a great debut. It was, however, the 20-year-old center field who stole the show on Friday night. Twitter (now called X) was excited about the debut of Dominguez and had been praying for his call-up. They were not disappointed as one user wrote “The Martian has landed,” to his historic home run. With the way the season has turned out, he is expected to stay with the team for the month of September. The fans would be hoping to see more such stuff for him to bring a positive end to a disastrous season. The Yanks will enter Saturday’s game hoping to clinch the series against the Houston Astros and claim back-to-back series wins.
