It can happen to anyone.” As fans grow concerned over the situation, the hope is that police act quickly to catch the perpetrator of such plans. Apart from being threatened by hackers, he was also a victim of a shooting in 2019.

‘Big Papi’ landed in intensive care after he got shot at a Dominican nightclub right after retirement 4 years ago. 13 suspects were arrested for the incident from which two different stories were extracted. The police suspected a drug trafficker had ordered to shoot the man sitting next to Ortiz for $30,000, while other sources claim that Ortiz was a targeted victim of the drug lord Cesar Peralta who put a bounty on him, according to a Boston Globe report.

In the recent hacking case, Ortiz claimed that the phone the hackers used for threatening has been lying dead for more than 15 years. He has not used that phone in a long while which gave the hackers the perfect deal for threatening to extort a said amount of money.
