“Pham! Bam!”: Joc Pederson refused to leave the clubhouse to avoid Tommy Pham’s slap

Joc Pederson and Tommy Pham

In May what grew as a fantasy football dispute resulted in a tight slap on the face of Joc Pederson by Cincinnati Reds Tommy Pham. Joc Pederson was traded this year by the Atlanta Braves to the San Francisco Giants. His former teammates from Atlanta Braves Tyler Matzek and Josh Tomlin spoke on the slapping incident on the podcast show called ‘The Chris Rose Rotation’.

They mentioned that the now Giants outfielder Joc Pederson refused to leave the clubhouse to avoid Pham during their series against the San Diego Padres. The reason was that Tommy Pham wanted to slap Pederson back then!

‘The Chris Rose Rotation’ posted on their official Twitter handle, “Braves pitchers Tyler Matzek & Josh Tomlin talk about how Joc Pederson didn’t leave the clubhouse in San Diego last year because Tommy Pham wanted to slap him”. From the slap to the latest updates to date, there has been some other spice in this fantasy football dispute between Pederson and Pham.

Joc Pederson was only trying to avoid Tommy Pham last season as per ex-teammates

Earlier when Joc Pederson was slapped by Tommy Pham, he issued a statement regarding the issue, “Kind of stemmed from a fantasy football league we both were in last year. I put a player on the injured reserve when they were listed as out and then added another player. And then there was a text message in the group [chat] saying that I was cheating because I was stashing players on my bench.

“Then I looked up the rules and sent a screenshot of the rules, how it says that when a player is ruled out, you’re allowed to put them on the IR. That’s all I was doing. It just so happened that he had a player, Jeff Wilson, who was out. He had him on the IR. I said, ‘You literally have the same thing on your team, on your bench.’ … So, it feels very similar to what I did. And that was basically all of it. There’s not much more to it.”

Tyler Matzek and Josh Tomlin heard about the dispute between Pham and Pederson in the clubhouse. That was when Tyler Matzek disclosed that Joc Pederson would not take batting practice at Petco Park and instead hit in the batting cages, all to avoid Tommy Pham.

Things then escalated into a t-shirt war; some Giants players wore shirts ahead of a game against the Kansas City Royals that read “Fantasy Football 101: Stashing Players on the IR isn’t Cheating.” Then, ahead of the Jun 24 game between Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants, Reds’ pitchers wore t-shirts that read “PHAM!” which was designed in the same style as a comic book “POW!”
