As the Winter Meetings took place this week, fans had their eyes rolling for updates regarding their team and favorite players. In this, Shohei Ohtani was the most watched player of them all. Fans had been anxiously waiting for any sort of development regarding him. During this, MLB reporter Jon Morosi made a huge claim that Ohtani was traveling to Toronto. This turned out to be incorrect for which he apologized.

The sheer mention of Ohtani saw social media erupt in anticipation. The Toronto Blue Jays, who were one of the favorites for his signature, seemed to be one getting his signature. However, nothing happened in the day and the information provided by Morosi turned out to be incorrect.

Unfortunately for Morosi, things did not work out as he wrote, leading to fans slamming him. The MLB insider later issued an apology for his actions on X.

This report from him was also pushed by USA Today’s Bob Nightengale who claimed that the 2023 American League MVP was actually in Southern California, which came out to be true as the MLB received their biggest announcement so far later in the day.

Social media reactions towards Jon Morosi’s apology

The name of Shohei Ohtani has dominated the MLB this season. The Japanese star once again had a magnificent year. However, baseball fans were more eager to see which team he would end up with during the free agency.

The report of Ohtani traveling to Toronto from Jon Morosi made several fans excited. At the end of the day, many of them were left with their hearts being broken as things did not plan out as mentioned. Following this Morosi apologized, but the fans were in no mood to listen to him.

Things got worse for Morosi when the MLB received their bigget announcement on Saturday that Ohtani had signed for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The two-way star took to his Instagram account to announce his future. The American league MVP joins the Dodgers on a huge 10-year, $700 million deal which would see him become the highest-paid player in baseball history.
