In a massive development regarding the MLB offseason, the New York Yankees on Wednesday announced the completion of a trade deal regarding Juan Soto. The slugger is now joining the Bronx Bombers through a mega seven-player deal.

The Yankees had one of their worst seasons last time out as they struggled offensively. The injury to captain Aaron Judge saw the offense crumble and despite his return, they were unable to get the results they desired. They would eventually finish the season with an 82-80 record.

The same could be said of the San Diego Padres. The National League side were unable to gel together. The quartet of Soto along with Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts, and Manny Machado failed to make much of an impact that was expected from them. With their payroll giving them problems as well, the Padres had no other option but to cut off one of their star players.

Soto, who switched to them in the middle of the 2022 season from the Washington Nationals, is now heading to New York. He along with Trent Grimshaw has been traded to the Yankees. The Padres in return received right-handed pitchers Michael King, Jhony Brito, Randy Vasquez, and Drew Thorpe. The big name from this though was catcher Kyle Higashioka, who left the team after joining them in 2007 through a draft and spent several seasons in the minors.

Fans react as Juan Soto joins New York Yankees

The New York Yankees are probably the most popular team in baseball history. The 27-time World Series winners are the most successful side in MLB and have seen several marquee players don their legendary pin-stripe jerseys. Juan Soto is now the latest superstar to join them as he got traded by the San Diego Padres.

A day before this massive announcement, the Yankees also announced a trade deal with the Boston Red Sox. The two rivals came together for business which saw Alex Verdugo heading to the Bronx. Before this, the American League side also let go of their starting pitcher Luis Severino, who joined their cross-town rivals, the New York Mets.

The 25-year-old left fielder finished the 2023 season with 35 home runs and 109 RBIs with an average of .275. Fans would be hoping he can replicate that form next season as the Yankees hope to bounce back. This also could not be the last big move they make as they are one of the candidates who are looking at free-agent Yoshinbu Yamamoto.
