“Mariners’ No. 24 reinstalled”: Ken Griffey Jr., MLB All-Century player to be USA’s hitting coach in 2023 World Baseball Classic

Ken Griffey Jr. is a legend in himself for majority of the Major League Baseball fans, he was introduced in the MLB Hall of Fame in 2016 with a 99.3 percentage. Ken Griffey Jr. is also a member of Major League Baseball’s All-Century team, on top of it, Seattle Mariners have retired the number he used to dawn, No. 24.
USA Baseball announced Team USA’s coaching staff on Tuesday afternoon. The staff will serve under Mark DeRosa, who was named Team USA’s manager last week. Former White Sox and Mets manager Jerry Manuel will be the bench coach, former Yankees and Astros lefthander Andy Pettitte will be the pitching coach,
Hall of Fame slugger Ken Griffey Jr. will be the hitting coach, former Pirates infielder Lou Collier will be the first base coach, Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel will serve in the same role and former Yankees and Giants lefthander Dave Righetti will be the bullpen coach.

Previously, the World Baseball Classic was suspended due to COVID, but due to MLB fans excitement, March 2023 will see a return for the Classic. The World Baseball Classic will be held March 8-21, and the United States will be aiming to make it back-to-back titles after winning in 2017. Now with Ken Griffey Jr. as hitting coach the title seems ever closer.
“I couldn’t be more excited to get in the fight with this group of men,” DeRosa said in the press release. “The wealth of knowledge, experience, and character that these guys will bring to our clubhouse will be vital to our success. March can’t come fast enough.”
Ken Griffey Jr., 52, played for the United States in the inaugural World Baseball Classic in 2006. He hit ,284 with 630 homers (seventh all-time), 1,836 RBI, 1,662 runs and a .907 OPS, in his legendary career.
Ken Griffey is a 13-time All-Star, 10-time Gold Glove award winner and 1997 American League MVP played for the Seattle Mariners (1989-99, 2009-10), Cincinnati Reds (2000-08) and Chicago White Sox (1998).
