WATCH – Kodai Senga dominates in first Major League game for Mets
The Japanese star quickly settled down after a nervous start to get the job done

The first day at work is always a big occasion no matter the field. Having a memorable debut sets the tone for the future and one always wants to make a good first impression. So when Japanese pitcher Kodai Senga took to the mound for his major league debut with the New York Mets, he was nervous but he delivered.
The debutant threw 5-1/3 innings allowing just one run and striking out eight hitters as he won his first major league game against the Miami Marlins at the LoanDepot Park. The 30-year-old struck out all hitters with his signature forkball, a pitch nicknamed ”Ghost fork” which drops in an instant as it arrives at the plate.
He started off by allowing the first four batters he came up against to reach base on two hits and walks. He soon settled down and struck out the next two he faced and lined out to the right to preserve the New York Mets‘ 2-1 lead. After the game, he admitted that he was nervous in the first inning.

Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani go back-to-back in series clincher

While Kodai Senga got the applause he deserved for his outstanding debut, another Japanese star stole the spotlight. Who else but Shohei Ohtani? Despite of a great start on the opening day where he stuck out ten batters, Ohtani and his team fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat. This time Ohtani once again proved why he is in contention for the most valuable player.
Just after his teammate and fellow superstar, Mike Trout went yard for his first Homerun of the season, Ohtani slammed the very next pitch over the fence for his first of the season as the Angels went back-to-back in the first inning as they won 6-0 against the A’s.
Apart from these two superstars, another name that has been making headlines for the Angels is the rookie Logan O’Hoope. The newbie slammed his first big league home run, a three-run shot to put the Angels ahead in the encounter.
With two RBIs in their first win of the season, O’Hoppe has a total of six RBIs. This is the most for any Angels catcher in their history in the first three games. He is also tied for the most by any catcher in their first three games of the season over the last two decades.
The Angels have taken their opening series 2-1, and will now face the Seattle Mariners at the T-Mobile park. The A’s would be looking to bounce back after a disappointing start and prepare to face the Cleveland Guardians.
