Mariano Rivera and Aaron Boone
Mariano Rivera has himself been a Yankee legend, in his career he has been a part of five World Series Championship team which makes him certain that Aaron Boone cannot manage a WS team. Rivera agrees with the New York Yankees fan base that the players need a change in management.
On the contrary, Mariano Rivera told the Associated Press on Thursday that he only wished the Yankees to have a better management and that he did not indicate upon losing the current manager. The SNY translated the quote from Spanish but the frustration is indeed bubbling with the Yankee office.
“If I’m the owner, Aaron Boone wouldn’t stay,” Mariano Rivera said on Wednesday at the Sports Forum of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives. “When things don’t come out the way we want them to all of the fault goes on the manager and somebody has to pay the price and we won’t put that on the players…”
Mariano Rivera stepped in to take back his words, says he would want Boone to stay
“I said when a team like this, the New York Yankees, is expected to win, the season that they had, and they don’t make it to the end, always the manager is the one that always ends up paying,” Rivera said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.
“Although the manager doesn’t hit, the manager doesn’t pitch, the manager doesn’t run, the manager doesn’t do nothing but manage and make sure everybody’s ready to play, unfortunately they never fire the whole team, they always fire the manager. I was giving a generic estimation. And obviously they took it out of context.” Added Mariano Rivera
Mariano Rivera notified MLB fans that he is no advocate to keep the case for removal of a Yankee manager, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said Wednesday he plans to have Boone return for a sixth season as manager, he said, ““As far as Boone’s concerned, I don’t see a change there.”
