“Just staying within myself” – Michael Harris II makes MLB debut with Atlanta Braves

Michael Harris II
The dream of young Atlanta Braves outfielder Michael Harris II of making his debut in the Major League Baseball (MLB) came true during the 1-4 loss to the Miami Marlins. Harris, who wore No. 23 as he batted ninth and played centre field, struck out in his first plate appearance.
Talking about the highlight of his maiden game, the 21-year-old said it was soaking in all the firsts: the first time he stepped on the field, the first time he wore a Braves jersey with his last name, the first time he came to the plate and had his name announced on the PA system.
“Nothing can really match the moment actually being here,” Harris said, as quoted by MLB.com. You can always dream about it, but actually being here, I don’t think anything tops it at all.”
“It was good to do that, especially against a very talented pitcher,” he added. “I was just staying within myself and trying not to do too much. I’m glad I got that out of the way.”
“Never thought it would be like this”

Notably, the Georgia native Harris made his Majors debut with his parents, siblings, girlfriend and other friends in attendance. He’s also now the youngest Georgia-born player (21 years and 82 days old) to debut for the Braves in the club’s 56-year stay in Atlanta.
Harris concluded: “It feels amazing, I never thought it would be like this. You can dream about what you want it to be. But actually being here with these guys, especially a lot of guys I grew up watching and rooting for, is always a good feeling.”
“As I grew, people were comparing me to him and saying I reminded them of him. It really opened my eyes and gave me a lot of confidence.”
