With the Major League Baseball (MLB) postseason on the horizon, teams are dropping out faster than flies. Several big names like the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox have been eliminated from contention. One team that clinched their place in the latter stages is the Milwaukee Brewers. They claimed this place after thrashing the Miami Marlins 16-1.

The Brewers currently lead the National League Central by eight games and can claim the division title with one win. At one stage of the season, the race for the top spot got tight with the emergence of the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs. The leaders hold their ground and composure and have assured themselves of a postseason appearance in October.

The offense of the Brewers kicked off in the second inning of the game. Home runs from marquee man Christian Yelich and Josh Donaldson saw the Milwaukee side put up twelve runs on the board. Pitcher Steven Okert struggled to make an impact off the mark as he walked five of the ten batters he faced. He was replaced in the second inning, bringing an end to his day.

In 27 pitches during the second inning, relief pitcher Bryan Hoeing gave up ten runs. This almost ended the game as the Marlins were unable to put any pressure on their bats. The 16-1 hammering from the Brewers sends a huge message to the other challengers whom they will face in the knock-out phase. Another reason why this game is grabbing the headlines is because of how the Marlins have played recently. They had outscored and swept the Atlanta Braves in convincing fashion.

Christian Yelich hoping to keep the momentum going as the Milwaukee Brewers chase down divisional title

There are two ways for Major League Baseball (MLB) to reach the playoffs. One is through battling hard in the wild-card standings and playing a three-game series. The other is by winning the division. The Milwaukee Brewers are assured of a postseason berth now, but they are hoping to reach October as division winners. Their star player, Christian Yelich, has now hoped the team can continue to keep their momentum.

We had great at-bats, took what was available, walks, going first to third, running the bases well, and obviously a couple of big swings there,” Yelich was quoted by AP. He further added, “Just proud of the guys tonight and hope to keep it going.” The Brewers recently came into the spotlight for the wrong reasons as well as their injured relief pitcher J.C. Mejia was suspended for usage of PEDs for the second time in two years.

They will hope to keep the Mejia matter aside and focus on closing out the season on a high. After this series, the Brewers will close out the season with a home series against the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs. They can dent the chances of the Cubs in that series, something the Chicago-based side would be hoping to avoid.
