New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays have been going after each other for quite some seasons, some MLB fans believe that the Blue Jays are trying to create a new rivalry with the giants in New York. Blue Jays’ pitcher Alek Manoah made an appearance on former NBA star Serge Ibaka’s Sportsnet show “How Hungry Are You?”

The American pitcher was selected by the Blue Jays with the 11th overall pick of the 2019 Major League Baseball draft out of West Virginia University, he was asked by Serge Ibaka, who he felt was the “worst cheater in baseball history”, and unapologetically named Gerrit Cole.

“In baseball history? Gerrit Cole! He used a lot of sticky stuff to make his pitches better, and he kinda got called out on it,” Alek Manoah said.

The heat between Alek Manoah and Gerrit Cole is not new as it reached its breaking point in August when Aaron Judge was hit by an inside fastball. Both the pitchers were involved in shouting back and forth, but nothing ever took shape physically.

New York Yankee fans took on twitter to curse the Toronto Blue Jays and their pitcher Alek Manoah for trying to build a baseless rivalry for no reason. Taking Gerrit Cole into account, he was one of the pitchers who allegedly used stick stuff in the past to improve the pitches. The Yankees ace didn’t exactly deny it.

“I don’t  … I don’t know … I don’t quite know how to answer that, to be honest,” New York Yankees’ Cole said during a 2021 ESPN interview. “There are customs and practices that have been passed down from older players to younger players, from the last generation of players to this generation of players, and I think there are some things that are certainly out of bounds in that regard.”

Certainly, after this interview that Cole-Manoah matchup would be one to watch as the Blue Jays will be visiting the Bronx in April when the 2023 MLB season starts. Alek even mentioned that he has his team-mate Vladimir Guerrero Jr. by his side in case a brawl ever breaks out.
