Things are just not working out for the New York Yankees this season. With every passing day, the struggles of the team seem to increase as the team fails to grab a valuable result. After losing the series to Miami Marlins, they were swept apart by the high-flying Atlanta Braves. The NY franchise has now been outclassed 16-4 in their two games against their rivals, the Boston Red Sox.
As they dropped the first game of the rivalry series against the Red Sox, pressure increased on manager Aaron Boone. He was stated to have given a rousing speech after the game and claimed things would turn around soon for them. Unfortunately for him, the team lost again by a score of 8-1.
The Red Sox who themselves are struggling for consistency this season, have somehow found a way to comprehensively beat the Yankees. The 27-time World Series winners once again had a torrid time as ace pitcher Gerrit Cole was the next in line to struggle.
“I don’t recall experiencing anything like this in my career,” Cole was quoted by NY Post. The six-time All-Star gave up six runs including a grand slam to Luis Urias in the second inning. His counterpart Kutter Crawford was aiming for a no-hitter which was later broken by a solo home run by Aaron Judge in the sixth inning. The damage though was already done and the Yankees their successive loss.
Twitter reacts as Red Sox beat NY Yankees again
This has been the story of the NY Yankees this season. Despite having several big names in both offense and defense, they all have struggled for consistency. This is one of their worst stretches in recent history as the team has fallen below a .500 win percentage. It is also the latest they have ever been below this mark in any season.
With each defeat, the pressure increases on Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman. Fans have been calling for their termination for a while now as they have grown impatient with the team’s performance. The Yankee faithful once again raised their voice on Twitter. A frustrated user called to “abolish this franchise.” Several others called them out as well. Here are a few reactions.
The team will have to find a way to avoid getting swept by arch-rivals. If they fail to do so, then they will be swept in back-to-back series. On the other hand, time is also running out for the Yankees to salvage their season. They are currently 3 games behind their old nemesis in fourth place and have lost ground on the wildcard spot as well.
