The home-run derby 2023 is in the books. The classic event which takes place in the middle of the season, provides the fans with huge entertainment. This year was no different as the event took place in Seattle. One of the most awaited match-ups was the rematch between Pete Alonso and Julio Rodriguez. J-Rod would go on to crush Alonso and set a new single record.

J-Rod has been a star in the making. The 2022 rookie of the year entered the event with a home-field advantage. He certainly made the most of it as he slammed a record 41 home runs in the first round. This broke the previous record of 40 set by Vladimir Guerrero Jr set in 2019. To match this result was always going to be difficult and so it proved for Alonso.

Alonso could only watch and be amazed by what was happening before him. The NY Mets star man had no answer for his derby rival. He would finish the evet with 21 home runs, 20 behind J-Rod. “I thought I put on a good show. I just unfortunately ran into a buzzsaw,” Alonso said after bowing down from the competition. This is the second time he has lost to Rodriguez, after losing in the semi-finals last year.

Pete Alonso stunned the baseball world when he won the home-run derby twice in a row. This led to many fans speculating about a “three-pete”. After two exits from the hands of Julio Rodriguez, Alonso now has to wait for at least another year to achieve his third victory.
