At this point of the MLB season, it should not be a surprise to see the name of Ronald Acuna Jr. show up in internet searches. The Atlanta Braves hitter continues to add new chapters to his iconic 2023 season. A few days ago, he became the first player to reach the 40-60 club with his 40th home run. He has now become the first member of the 40-70 club following his steal against the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night.
Acuna Jr. has played a major part in the success of the Braves this season. His consistent performances have made him one of the favorites to win the National League MVP. The 25-year-old came up with clutch once again as he game-tying single late in the game.
The historic moment came in the tenth inning of the game as the Cubs and Braves were levelled at 5-5. Like he has done all season, Acuna Jr. quickly took off and slid in safety to reach the second base. The home crowd at the Truist Park would explode in cheer as he took off the base from the ground in celebration. He was not done there though, as an Ozzie Albies single allowed him to reach home to cash in the game-winner and walk off the Cubs 6-5.
This victory marked the Braves 102nd win of the season. This means they will end the regular season with the best record in the National League and have home-field advantage till the NLCS. “I’m very very happy, most of all that we are triumphant in tonight’s game. It was a super emotional game and I’m extremely happy to have created the 40-70 club,” he said after the game through his translator.

While the Braves enjoyed another memorable night, it turned out to be a huge blow to the Chicago Cubs. This loss has seen their lead cut down and they are now tied with the Marlins for the final spot. As the Miami-based side owns the tiebreaker, they will go through if both teams finish with the same record from here on.
