One of the world’s largest crypto start-ups have taken MLB’s two-way star Shohei Ohtani into the bankruptcy fishnet. FTX welcomed Shohei as their Global Ambassador a year ago announcing their long-term partnership, he was to receive all his compensation in equity and cryptocurrencies to demonstrate how he puts his faith in them.
The owner of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, shook the entire crypto market when he filed for bankruptcy. FTX start-up drew comparisons of MIT graduate Sam Bankman-Fried with the likes of Warren Buffet and John Pierpont Morgan but unfortunately, it has all gone down the drain.
Last year when FTX signed Shohei Ohtani as their spokesperson to give a stage to the FTX brand, “Shohei has become a transcendent player in baseball in just a short period of time and this, combined with his support of digital assets, made it an easy choice to enter into a partnership with him.”
FTX added, “Off the field, Shohei has a passion for bettering the global community, something both he and FTX share, and we’re excited to partner with Shohei on various charitable initiatives, particularly with a focus on helping animals.”
Apart from Shohei Ohtani, what happens to the athletes who were aggressively recruited by FTX?
Athletes like Stephen Curry and Tom Brady will be out plenty money, as a matter-of-fact Brady and his ex-wife Gisele starred in a $20 million ad blitz last football season in exchange for an equity stake in the company.
An NFT collector named Don’s Father tweeted, “Celebrities that have Promoted FTX: Larry David, Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, Aaron Jones, Albane Valenzuela, Steph Curry, Shohei Ohtani, Naomi Osaka, Trevor Lawrence, Major League Baseball. Just from this list you can tell FTX crashing is a complete CATASTROPHE.”
In the 2021 MLB postseason FTX donated $10,000 for every MLB Postseason home run, with the total rising to $100,000 per home run in the World Series.
When an FTX spokesperson was questioned about the sports partnerships and the future the partners hold, he declined the comment made by Bankman-Fried who wrote on Twitter that “all assets will be covered,”
