“The 1st $50M player?”: Shohei Ohtani on the lookout for exuberant $50 Million deal after 2024 free agency
Shohei Ohtani
Shohei Ohtani made his Major League Baseball debut with the Los Angeles Angels on March 29, 2018. After which he has established himself as one of the most skilled two-way players. In the MLB’s 2021 All-Star game Shohei Ohtani was the first player in MLB history to be an All-Star as the AL’s manager-selected starting pitcher (earning the win) and fan-elected starting designated hitter (as the leadoff hitter).
2021 was a splendid year for the two-way star Shohei Ohtani as his individual accolades included AL MVP, All-MLB First Team, AL Rookie of the Year, Silver Slugger Award, Edgar Martínez Award, Commissioner’s Historic Achievement Award and amongst many others AP Athlete of the Year. His two-year extension for a combined $8.5 million is over after this season.
Shohei Ohtani has another year of arbitration eligibility left but salary is set to skyrocket. His form is superb this year too and the deal value will only increase should he reach free agency. Reportedly, Ohtani’s representatives are looking for a record deal, surpassing Max Scherzer and the $43.333 million he is receiving each year.
Will Shohei Ohtani be the greatest Japanese player ever to step foot in Major League Baseball?
Shohei Ohtani surely is a Japanese beast who has found himself impressing almost every team and fan in the Major League Baseball. Winning back-to-back MVPs would place Ohtani in a league of his own and would create a bidding war among the MLB’s richest organizations.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post about Shohei Ohtani.”(Ohtani) will surely seek to become the first $50 million (or more) player as a 2024 free agent, and considering his amazing achievements, he deserves to be the game’s best-paid player, as the sport’s true triple threat (hitting, pitching, marketing).”
Major League Baseball has seen no player since Babe Ruth who has been so dominant on the pitching and hitting side. There are no comparisons in modern-day baseball for a player possessing his skillset. If he ends up on the open market and teams begin bidding for his services, it would not be a shock to see the majors’ first $50 million per year player.
