“Health is nothing to mess with”- Tony La Russa, White Sox manager uncertain about return to MLB

Tony La Russa
Tony La Russa was back on Sunday with the Chicago White Sox but this time not as their manager. He was in Oakland to attend the auspicious occasion of Dave Stewart retiring his No.34 jersey by the Oakland Athletics.
Tony La Russa’s absence as a manager is due to the insertion of a pacemaker in his heart. His return to the club as of now remains uncertain.
Tony talked to The Associated Press about the reasons for his absence before Chicago’s series finale against the Oakland Athletics, and his health conditions. He feels fortunate to have what he considers a “simple” heart issue.
“Health is nothing to mess with”, says La Russa. “So I got checked in Chicago and the reason I flew to Arizona is that’s been the place since the ’90s I’ve had my physicals. They addressed it, they fixed it and now it’s just a question of regaining strength.”
Miguel Cairo fills in the gap for Tony La Russa

Tony La Russa was destined to manage the reigning AL Central champions on the 30th of August before misfortune struck and La Russa was taken off the field. As he is uncertain of his return to the White Sox bench coach Miguel Cairo fills in for nearly two weeks in absence of La Russa in the dugout.
“I’m glad to see him. He looks really good,” Miguel Cairo said. “I’ve been talking to him so I know how he feels and he’s feeling good and he’s smiling. I’m glad to see him. I know the whole team is glad to see him.”
La Russa is destined to fly home with the team, take a break on Monday and then decide what’s to be done thereafter- “I don’t plan on being in a uniform until they say it’s time to put a uniform on.”
According to Tony La Russa, he went through some issues during spring training also. “I’ve had my issues fixed, I’m mending,” La Russa said. “When it gets better at some point, I’ll be strong enough to do a triathlon.”
