On Sunday, MLB fans were left stunned when they spotted Trevor Bauer playing baseball again. The former Cy Young award winner competed in his first competitive game in over two years. He was living his dream in 2021 when he joined his home team, the Los Angeles Dodgers. He had an 8-5 record with a 2.59 ERA in 17 starts. His dream turned into a nightmare after he found himself at the end of domestic violence and sexual assault charges.

He was immediately suspended by the MLB for violating their domestic abuse policies. He was placed on administrative leave by the franchise. As a result of the investigation, Bauer was suspended for 324 games. After appealing it was reduced to 194 games. The Dodgers would eventually cut all ties with him and release him in January this year.

After starring as a pitcher during his college days, Bauer was picked as a third overall draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012. He would soon become a major and debut for his team. Following an internal team clash he was traded to the Cleveland Indians (now Guardians). In his first two seasons, he tried to recover and reinvent his pitching style.

By 2016, he had become a major part of the Indians’ pitching rotation, which reached the World Series that year. He lost both of his games in the series as the Chicago Cubs came back from 3-1 down to win it all in Game 7. His struggles started after the 2018 All-Star game. In 2019 he joined the Cincinnati Reds. During the shortened 60-game season he would pick up the NL Cy Young award. He also becomes the first Reds pitcher to do so.
